Bentley rushes for 126 yards but Bulldogs fall to Prairie View A&M

HUNTSVILLE -- Bulldogs' freshman Jordan Bentley rushed for 126 yards but Prairie View scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to put the game out of reach in a 41-20 win in Saturday's Louis Crews Classic.

With A&M trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter, Bentley broke off tackle and raced 62 yards for the game-tying touchdown.

But that was as close as the Bulldogs (1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference, 1-2 overall) would get the rest of the game.

The Panthers (2-0, 2-1) retook the lead just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter.

A&M kicker Nick Carden made the score 14-10 with his career-long 46-yard field goal with 6:00 left on the clock.

However, Prairie View struck back, getting the ball after the ensuing kickoff at midfield and scoring on a 50-yard touchdown pass.

A Carden 42-yard field goal in the third quarter brought A&M to trail 21-13 but the Panthers responded with a touchdown and a 28-13 lead with 5:45 to go in the quarter.

Quarterback De'Angelo Ballard's 13-yard touchdown scamper made it a one-score game to cut the Prairie View lead to 28-20.

But the visitors wrapped it up in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday when Southern visits Louis Crews Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
