Gameday: A&M hosts Jackson State in SWAC opener

HUNTSVILLE -- The boys are back in town.

And so are the ladies.

That's right - it's gameday on The Hill as Alabama A&M's men's and women's basketball teams host Jackson State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference season opener Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game in venerable Elmore Gym.

Pacing the Lady Bulldogs is freshman sensation Jameica Cobb. A shooting guard, she is second in the SWAC in scoring with 16.1 points a game and third in rebounds with 7.3 per game.

Junior point guard Hilary Williams is fourth in the league in steals (2.3 per game) and sixth in assists with 2.7 a game.

Senior center/forward Quinterian McConico is the leading scorer for the Bulldogs at 11.8 points per game while his team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game is good for sixth in the SWAC.

Fellow senior Rakiya Battle, the conference's top assists man in each of the past two seasons, is second in the SWAC with 5 assists per game.

McConico and Battle were preseason All-SWAC second team selections.

A&M is home again on Wednesday when Grambling State visits The Hill. Gametime is 5:30 p.m. for the women's game with the men's game to follow.
