Bulldogs host Southern Jags on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE -- The Bulldogs are coming off a tough loss to in-state rival Alabama State by hosting the SWAC's top-scoring offense on Saturday.

But A&M has a couple offensive weapons of its own taking the court in Elmore Gym.

Southern University is averaging 73.5 points per game and is led by the league's top scorer in Shawn Prudhomme and his 17.5 ppg average. Jared Sam is averaging 14 ppg – good for eighth in the league.

The Bulldogs' Quinterian McConico, however, is in a group of three among SWAC leaders. He is averaging 13.1 ppg (10^th in the SWAC) and 7.6 rebounds per game (6^th in the SWAC).

McConico is one of just three players (Sam and Alcorn's Reginal Johnson) among the top 10 scorers and top six rebounders.

Fellow senior Rakiya Battle, the league's top assists man in each of the past two seasons, is second in the SWAC with 77 assists and an average of 4.8 per game.

BULLDOG BITES

DOUBLE HIS PLEASURE: Senior Quinterian McConico is tied for the league lead among active SWAC players with four double-doubles on the season. Derrick Griffin of Texas Southern has seven but he left the Tigers to prepare for the National Football League draft.

IN CONTROL: Senior Rakiya Battle leads the SWAC with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS: The Bulldogs' leading rebounder, McConico is third in the SWAC in defensive rebounds, averaging 5.3 per game, and sixth in the league with an average of 2.3 offensive rebounds per game.

PUTTING IT ON THE LINE: The Bulldogs are the No. 2 free-throw shooting team in the SWAC, making 217 of 311 attempts for a .698 percentage.

A&M is the only team to have three players among the league's top 15 free-throw shooters: De'Ederick Petty is 9^th at .732 (52 for 71); Battle is 10^th, making 34 of 47 for a .723 percentage; and McConico is 14^th, hitting 34 of 52 attempts for .654.
