Bulldogs fall to Alcorn State

HUNTSVILLE -- De'Ederick Petty scored a game-high 23 points to lead a trio of Bulldogs in double figures Monday, but it wasn't enough as they fell 81-70 to Alcorn State.
The Braves had five players in double figures, led by Denzel Dulin's 17 points.
 
Marcus Merriweather scored 16 and Quinterian McConico added 13 points for A&M, who fell to 1-6 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and 1-17 overall.

The Bulldogs shot more than 48 percent from the field (25 for 52), including nearly 52 percent in the second half while the Braves hit 29 of 63 shots for 46 percent. 


Petty hit 11 of 14 at the free-throw line to contribute to his season-high point total.

However, Alcorn State outrebounded the Bulldogs 36-25 and held A&M to just eight offensive rebounds.

A&M took a 3-0 lead on a jump shot by Rakiya Battle in the first minute and a free throw by the Braves reeled off seven straight points over the next 3 minutes for a 7-3 lead, forcing the Bulldogs to play catchup the rest of the game.

Unfortunately, A&M tied the score just once - at 25-25 with 6:20 to play in the first half. The Bulldogs trailed 37-31 at the half.

Alcorn led by as many as 22 points late in the game before the Bulldogs closed out the final 6:48 with a 18-7 run for the final 81-70 score.

The Bulldogs are on the road this weekend - visiting Prairie View A&M on Saturday and Texas Southern next Monday. The games can be heard on WJAB-FM 90.9 and wjab.org with Michael Burns on the play-by-play.
