HOUSTON, Texas -- The Bulldogs close out the first half of the season with a daunting task – taking on the defending league champion and current first-place Texas Southern Tigers.

Texas Southern slipped past Alabama State 70-68 Saturday while the Bulldogs fell at Prairie View 70-65.

The defeat was the most recent close loss for the Bulldogs: Of their last four losses, three have been by five points or less.

Quinterian McConico continues to lead the Bulldogs offense. He is ninth in the league in scoring at 13.5 points per game and third in rebounds with 7.7 per game.

But De'Ederick Petty has put up big numbers of late. The freshman scored 22 points at Prairie View on Saturday after a season-best 23-point outing against Alcorn State last weekend. He also scored 19 against Alabama State two weeks ago.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Senior Quinterian McConico leads the SWAC among active players with five double-doubles on the season. Derrick Griffin of Texas Southern has seven but he left the Tigers to prepare for the National Football League draft.
