Bulldogs eager to get back on winning track

HUNTSVILLE -- A 2 p.m. start and a week in familiar surroundings will help the Bulldogs get back on the winning track Saturday.

Alabama A&M, at 2-1 in the SWAC and 2-4 overall, is in second place in the East Division, just behind first-place Alcorn State (2-0, 4-2).

Division foe Mississippi Valley State (1-1, 1-4) comes to the Hill after last Saturday's thrilling 38-31 win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Bulldogs boast of one of the top defenses in the league. They are third in total defense, giving up 337.7 yards per game in six games this season. However, against in three SWAC games, A&M has yielded 262.67 yards of total offense per game.

The game is a matchup, too, of the league's top two pass defenses. MVSU is tops in allowing 159 yards through the air per game while A&M is second with an average of 182 yards per game.

Key to the pass defense is a strong pass rush and the Bulldogs are there. With the No. 2 sack defense in the league, Yurik Bethune, Kenneth Davis and Dylan Hamilton are among the league's top eight sackers while Vernon Moland is 16th, giving the Bulldogs four of the top 16 sackers - Grambling is the only other team with as many in the top 16.
