Softball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. Tuskegee

HUNTSVILLE --- In the home opener of the season, the Alabama A&M softball team (6-11) swept a doubleheader against Tuskegee (0-13) on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Bulldog Field. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Tigers, 12-4, in game one, and won game two 10-5.

How it Happened
Game 1: Alabama A&M 12, Tuskegee 4
Imani Largin got the Lady Bulldogs on the board in the opening frame when she scored on an error followed by a double from Danielle Hansell to center field to score Ariel Smith. Janae Adams added a run in the bottom of the second thanks to a triple from Tamia Lee-Barbadillo.  

Barbadillo would then score after a triple from Tiana Sanders followed by Sanders stealing home to put the Lady Bulldogs up 5-0 in the bottom of the second. To close out the inning, Hansell double RBI to center field scored Ariel Smith.

The Lady Bulldogs shutout the Lady Tigers in the first three innings and continued to extend their lead by 7 after Barbadillo scored in the bottom of the third after Sanders grounded out to third base.

Trailing 7-0, Tuskegee added two singles to score two. The Lady Bulldogs responded quickly in the bottom of the fourth with Smith and Viridiana Ramos scoring on wild pitches. The Lady Tigers would add two more runs in the top of the fifth but Smith added the run-rule insurance tally in the bottom of the fifth with the three RBI homerun to secure the win.

Game 2: Alabama A&M 10, Tuskegee 5
The Lady Tigers came out dominating on offense in the top of the first inning with two back-to-back homers to take an early 4-0 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. Tuskegee would hold the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the first and second innings before Madi Pozzi's double to left field in the bottom of the third scored Eriel Lawson. Pozzi would then score on a Lady Tigers error to cut the lead 4-2. Largin cut Tuskegee's lead to one after scoring off of Sanders single RBI.

The Lady Tigers would score their final run of the game in the top of the fourth from a Lady Bulldogs. Trailing 5-3, AAMU took advantage of Tuskegee's errors, scoring off a error and pass ball to tie the game at five.

Lawson 's single to center field in the bottom of the fifth scored Ramos to take a 6-5 lead over the Lady Tigers. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead, 10-5. They were able to hold the Lady Tigers scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-5 win over Tuskegee.
