ITTA BENA, Miss. -- Cornelious Woods had three hits and drove in two runs while Owen Stubberfield picked up his first win of the season in A&M's 3-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State.

The Bulldogs (7-11) took two-of-three from the Delta Devils (5-16) this weekend and strengthened their hold on third place in the SWAC Eastern Division.

The game also saw Brandon Marsonek increase his NCAA-leading strikeout total to 104 on the year. He struck out two batters in 1 1/3 innings of relief in the game to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Stubberfield went 7 2/3 innings in his second start of the season, scattering five hits and giving up one run.

Woods put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the second inning with his RBI single that brought home Carson McGregory.

With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Pierre Brewton doubled home Caleb Gay for a 2-1 lead.

In the seventh inning, Woods rounded out the scoring when he singled to score Carlton Peppers and the 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs host Samford on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and wrap up their home slate next weekend when Alcorn State (6-12) visits for a three-game Eastern Division series that can determine the seeding for next month's SWAC baseball tournament.
