Men’s Basketball Falls at Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss--- The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team (2-17, 2-4 SWAC) dropped a 68-52 decision at Alcorn State (6-14, 2-5 SWAC) Saturday evening despite holding a one-point halftime advantage, 24-23.

The Braves started strong scoring the first three points of the game and holding the Bulldogs scoreless until a layup by Arthur Johnson at the 16:46 mark. The two teams would continue to trade points as the lead changed multiple times. The Braves built an eight-point lead, 23-15, with less than four minutes on the clock. At the 2:27 mark, Evan Wiley answered with a jumper to start a 9-0 run for the Bulldogs, which allowed them to take a 24-23 lead over Alcorn State at the end of the first half.

The hosts scored the first ten points of the second half for a 33-24 lead in the first 1:45. Julian Walters netted a layup followed by a layup and three-pointer from Johnson to cut Alcorn's lead to four, 35-31. The Braves wouldn't allow the Bulldogs to get any closer, as they extended their lead to 17 with 1:35 remaining in the game to secure the win.

Johnson had a team-high 16 points and four rebounds, while Walters added 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Andre Kennedy had seven rebounds for the night.

Alabama A&M continues in SWAC play as they travel to Baton Rouge, LA to face Southern Monday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
