JACKSON, Miss.--- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team will continue Southwestern Athletic Conference play as they face Jackson State Lady Tigers at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center in Jackson, MS at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-7, 0-1 SWAC) enter Wednesday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak as they are coming off of a 78-49 loss at Grambling State on Monday afternoon in the SWAC opener.

Kanisha Tharpe led AAMU with a team-high 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Lauren McKee chipped in seven points. Nigeria Jones and Natalie Collins each had six points respectively. Jameica Cobb added eight rebounds.
 
In the 12 games played this season, Alabama A&M has averaged 56.1 points while shooting just 35-percent from the floor. From the long distance, the Lady Bulldogs are responsible for 23-percent shooting and 58-percent from the free-throw line.

Jones anchors the offensive attack for Alabama A&M, averaging 8.6 points per game, while classmate Ashlyn Dotson puts up 7.8 points per game. Tharpe has a team-high 6.4 rebounds, followed by Cobb who averages 4.6 rebounds.

As for Jackson State, the Lady Tigers head into the match after earning a 70-61 win over Alabama State on Monday evening. Derica Wiggins led the efforts with 23 points and grabbed a game-high six rebounds.

 Jackson State enters Wednesday's game, shooting 37-percent from the field, including 18-percent from the 3-point line and 64-percent at the charity stripe. Wiggins is the leading scorer on the team, posting 17.4 points a game. Christina Ellis adds 10 points, while Mariah Smelser leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per game.

The last time these two programs met was on March 2, 2017 where the Lady Bulldogs dropped 58-49 on the road.

Following Wednesday's clash, Alabama A&M will pick up conference play again on Saturday, Jan. 6 when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
