HUNTSVILLE, AL– The Alabama A&M University men's and women's basketball teams host Mississippi Valley State in a doubleheader at Elmore Gym. The women tip at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.

Women's Preview

WHAT TO KNOW
 - The Lady Bulldogs (6-8, 1-2 SWAC) earned its first Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 52-49, on Saturday in Elmore Gym.
 
-Ashlyn Dotson led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points while posting four rebounds. Natalie Collins and Nigeria Jones each added nine points, with Jones leading the team in rebounds with five boards and four steals.

-  Jones leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 8.3 ppg and 1.5 steals. Tharpe leads the team in rebounds with 5.9 rpg. Lauren McKee leads the Lady Bulldogs in assists (3.2 apg).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 - MVSU (0-14, 0-2 SWAC) lost their last game on the roada at  Alabama State, 41-76. Kristy Parker led the Devilettes with 14 points.
 
- Parker also leads Mississippi Valley State in scoring with 15 points per game. LaKendra Bassett leads in rebounds with 4.9 per game.
 
- The Lady Bulldogs have loss the last two matchups against the Devilettes, with the last matchup being at Elmore Gym on Feb. 4, 2017, 58-52, last season.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs will return to the road as they travel to Alabama State on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Men's Preview

WHAT TO KNOW
 - AAMU (1-15, 1-2 SWAC) dropped their first home SWAC game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 62-69, Saturday evening.
 
- Marcus Merriweather paced the Bulldogs with 15 points and Andre Kennedy added 10 points while leading the team with eight rebounds. Arthur Johnson had nine points for AAMU and three rebounds.  
 
- Against UAPB, the Bulldogs shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field, 33.3 percent from the behind the arc (7-of-21) and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the charity stripe.

- De'Ederick Petty paces the Bulldogs in scoring with 10.6 points-per-game and Johnson adds 9.9 points per game.
 
- Kennedy leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game.
 
- Alabama A&M is shooting 39-percent from the field, 33-percent from the three-point line and 66-percent from the charity stripe.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 - MVSU (0-15, 0-1 SWAC) lost their last contest against Alabama State on Saturday, 63-46. Jordan Evans led the team with 16 points and three Devils contributed six rebounds each.
 
- Dante Scott paced the Devils at 12.4 points per game.  Evans adds 9.6 per game for MVSU. Emmanuel Ejeh leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.  
 
- Last season, the Bulldogs defeated the Devils, 79-76, on Jan. 7, 2017 in Itta Bena, MS and The Devils defeated the Bulldogs, 68-66, in Elmore Gym, on Feb. 4, 2017.

 AAMU travels to Montgomery, AL for an in-state rival at Alabama State on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tip-off will follow the women's game, which starts at 3 p.m.
