Kansas holds of Alabama A&M Women's Basketball

LAWRENCE, Ks. — Jessica Washington found her groove.

Washington drained a 3-pointer from the corner early in the second period, and a few seconds later, the Kansas guard did it again.

Those consecutive sparked a lengthy scoring run as Kansas rode a second-period surge to top Alabama A&M 65-54 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's college basketball game.

The second period was the difference.

Lauren McKee made a bucket in the final seconds of the first period to tie the score at 12 apiece, but Kansas (3-0) used a 14-2 run in the second period to build a 16-point halftime lead.

Alabama A&M (1-4) rallied back in the second half. Nigeria Jones made a jumper midway into the fourth period to pull the Bulldogs within nine.

Jones led Alabama A&M with 14 points, while McKee scored eight. Carnethia Brown added seven points.

Christalah Lyons led Kansas with 16 points, while Washington finished with 12.
