Five Alabama A&M football players earn all-SWAC honors

BIRMINGHAM — Connell Maynor has high aspirations for Alabama A&M's football program.

In Maynor's debut season as Alabama A&M's football coach, the Bulldogs enjoyed the program's first winning season in six years while carrying lots of positive momentum into the offseason.

The success Alabama A&M enjoyed on the field was reflected on the SWAC's all-conference team.

Five members of the Alabama A&M football program received all-conference honors, including a pair of first-team selections.

The all-conference team is voted on by the sports information directors and the head football coaches from the league's 10 member schools.

Alabama A&M had two first-team selections on defense.

Yurik Bethune was a first-team selection at defensive end, and Armoni Holloway was a first-team selection at linebacker.

Bethune, a senior from Mobile, Ala., was second in the SWAC with 9.5 sacks, and he led the conference with 11.5 tackles for loss. Bethune, who was picked as the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week twice, finished the season with 50 tackles.

Holloway, a junior from Pinson, Ala., led the SWAC with 108 tackles—averaging 9.8 tackles per game—while recording 2.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Dylan Hamilton was a second-team selection on the all-conference defense as a safety. The senior from Powder Springs, Ga. finished with 81 tackles, which was 10th in the SWAC.

Alabama A&M had a pair of second-team selections on offense.

Aqeel Glass was a second-team selection at quarterback. The sophomore from St. Louis led the SWAC with 2,426 passing yards with 20 touchdowns. He completed 194 of 346 attempts while throwing just nine interceptions.

Trevon Walters was a second-team selection at running back. The senior from Bradenton, Fla. averaged 6.3 yards per carry while rushing for 669 yards and seven touchdowns.

Alcorn State quarterback Noah Johnson was selected as the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. The junior quarterback passed for 1,944 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 813 yards and seven touchdowns.

For the second-straight year, Grambling State linebacker De'Arius Christmas was tabbed as the SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. The senior linebacker recorded 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

Alron State junior transfer De'Shawn Waller was named the SWAC Newcomer of the Year, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff receiver Dejuan Miller was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year.
