Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Fort Wayne

HUNTSVILLE ---- Alabama A&M University baseball team closed the weekend with an impressive split of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against Fort Wayne.  After dropping a nine inning match, 7-4, in game one, the Bulldogs defeated the Mastodons, 5-2 in game two.

 NOTES
• Alabama A&M moved to 2-1 on the year.
• Fort Wayne improved to 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1 (FW 7, AAMU 4)
• After a scoreless first and second inning, Fort Wayne struck first with four runs on four hits in the top of the third. A single to center field allowed Carson McGregory to score Johnathan Smith II put the Bulldogs on the board.
• Neither team plated a run in the fourth, however Alabama A&M scored in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single from McGregory that plated JT O'Reel followed by a sacrifice fly from Carlton Peppers to plate Smith in the bottom of the seventh.
• Fort Wayne responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 7-3 lead.
• With the bases loaded, O'Reel singled in the bottom of the eighth to score Parker, but it wasn't enough as the Dons' grabbed the 7-4 victory in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2 (AAMU 5, FW 2)
• Neither team had a chance to score in the first frame, but Fort Wayne plated its first run in the top of the second off a Alabama A&M error. Both teams were scoreless in the third before another Bulldogs error allowed Fort Wayne to score and go ahead 2-0.  
• Alabama A&M responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the inning to tie the game at two. Jesus Diaz singled to shortstop to score Richard Polinsky followed by Pepper's run from a pass ball.  
• The Bulldogs plated an additional run in the fourth, and two in the fifth to secure the 5-2 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• The Bulldogs outhit Fort Wayne 15-11 in game one and they slightly led the Don's in hits, 6-4, in game two.
 
UP NEXT
• Alabama A&M will return to action on Tuesday, February 20, when they host Murray State in a single game. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
