Softball Overpowered by UAB, 10-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama A&M Softball team fell 10-1 to the University of Alabama at Birmingham during Tuesday night action at Mary Bowers Field.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-12) were limited to just two hits on the evening. The Blazers managed to jump ahead early at the expense of AAMU starting pitcher Emily Lipinski. Ultimately, the early rush by UAB left Alabama A&M down 5-0 -- the Blazers scored four in the first inning -- prior to Alexis Bates hitting a leadoff single in the third inning for the Lady Bulldogs' first hit of the game.

After UAB tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 7-0, Tiana Sanders provided a bright spot for Alabama A&M with a solo blast to right, but the Blazers responded with three more runs down the stretch, cruising to victory.

Claire Blount got the win for UAB, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three RBI. Lipinski was charged with the loss, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits.
