JACKSON, Miss. – Alabama A&M swept Jackson State in double-header action Saturday afternoon, winning game one 6-0 and prevailing 5-3 in game two during Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the JSU Softball Complex.
Imani Largin threw a six-hit shutout to lead Alabama A&M (15-12, 7-2 SWAC) past Jackson State (7-20, 1-8 SWAC) in game one. The Lady Bulldogs didn't get on the board until the third inning, thanks to a Kia Lang RBI sac fly. From there, AAMU methodically added to its advantage, as Jamia Kirk hit a two-run single in the third inning, and the Bulldogs scored another in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Jackson State struggled to get runners home, ultimately stranding eight runners – three in the seventh – during the game. Kelsey Smith was 2-for-3 to lead Jackson State. Ariel Smith accounted for three RBI despite not collecting a hit for AAMU.
In game two, Smith sparked Alabama A&M early with a three-run home run in the first inning. Jackson State responded as Cheyenne Aplon hit a RBI single, and Kaitlyn Elzie scored during a double play to bring Jackson State within one.
However, Alabama A&M manufactured two runs in the third, and from there Lady Bulldogs' starter Rachel Sanders was able to keep Jackson State under wraps – sans one run allowed in the sixth – to secure the win.
Sanders threw a complete game to get the win, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and fanning three. Ashley Sain was charged with the loss, throwing a complete game and allowing five hits and five runs (four earned). AAMU's Danielle Hansell was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Alexis Hansard had two hits for JSU.
