Three AAMU Players Named to Preseason All-SWAC Football Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Three Alabama A&M football players have been named to the SWAC preseason all-conference football team.

Senior defensive end Vernon Moland and senior safety Dylan Hamilton were first-team selections, while junior running back Jordan Bentley was a second-team selection.

The SWAC released its 2018 preseason all-conference teams on Friday during SWAC Media at the Grandview Marriott in Birmingham. Forty-nine players were named to the SWAC preseason all-conference teams.

Hamilton, a 6-foot-1 and 200-pound senior from Powder Springs, Ga., was a strong presence last season on Alabama A&M's defense. He finished the season with 67 tackles, six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Hamilton also had two interceptions and a pass breakup. The veteran safety had more than seven tackles in five games.

Moland emerged last season as one of the SWAC's top edge rushers. The 6-foot and 235-pound defensive end from Adamsville, Ala., led Alabama A&M with 10 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss, which includes a forced safety. Moland finished the season with 35 tackles.

Bentley, a 6-foot and 200-pound, junior was plagued by injuries for most of last season, but still rushed for 427 yards and five touchdowns on 104 carries. He also caught 10 passes for 57 yards. In 2016, Bentley, who is from Guntersville, Ala., led Alabama A&M with 851 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, and he was selected as the SWAC Freshman of the Year.
