NASHVILLE, Tenn. __ Alabama A&M will officially open the 2019-20 men's basketball season on Tuesday night as the Bulldogs visit Tennessee State at the Gentry Center. The season opening contest will tip at 7 p.m. CT and will also be televised on ESPN+.

This matchup will mark the 26th meeting in series history between the two teams, with the last game being in December of 2013, where the Bulldogs won 66-65. Tennessee State owns a 21-4 record in the all-time series.

This year's Bulldog squad welcomes back two starters and six letterwinners from last season's team. Howard and his staff welcomed a total of nine newcomers, including seven freshmen, a graduate transfer and a returning player who redshirted the 2018-19 season.

  • Alabama A&M finished the 2018-19 season with a 5-27 overall mark and a 4-14 record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference play, which tied for ninth overall.

  • Tennessee State finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference.
  • Head Coach Brian "Penny" Collins will begin year two as the Tennessee State Head coach, after heading to Nashville after assistant coaching stops at Illinois State and East Tennessee State.
  • TSU returns just two letterwinners form a year ago, and bring along 12 newcomers on this year's team.
  • Of the 12 Tiger newcomers, half have prior Division I experience, with three previously being in Power 5 conferences.
