LINCOLN, Neb. __ The Alabama A&M women's basketball program open their 2019-20 season this week in a very familiar place to Head Coach Margaret Richards.

The Lady Bulldogs are set to face off against Richards alma mater, the Cornhuskers of Nebraska, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with the tip scheduled for 12 noon. The game will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network.
This matchup will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Notes You Need to Know
Head Coach Margaret Richards was a four-year letterwinner at Nebraska (2001-2004). The Louisville native finished her career with 915 points, 518 rebounds and 216 assists while playing in 117 games, including 69 starts.

About Alabama A&M
  • The Lady Bulldogs return three starters and seven letterwinners from a squad last year that finished with a 13-17 overall record and 8-10 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
  • Alabama A&M has improved each year under the helm of Coach Richards, with last year's 13 wins being the most by the program since winning 17 games during the 2011-12 season.
  • The Lady Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the SWAC by the preseason polls for the 2019-20 season.
  • Redshirt sophomore Elexis Evans enters 2019-20 as a preseason first-team All-SWAC Selection. The 6-4 center averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in only 13 minutes as a freshman.
  • Junior Nigeria Jones, from local Lincoln Northeast High School, earned second-team All-SWAC honors. The 5-7 guard was the team's leading scorer last year, averaging 11.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
  • Missouri State transfer Dariauna Lewis is also from the state of Nebraska, as she starred at Omaha North High School before finding her way to Alabama A&M this season.
About Nebraska
  • The Huskers defeated Division II Rogers State 97-33 in their lone exhibition match at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday, Nov. 2.
  • Nebraska brings back plenty of depth, as all five starters and 10 letterwinners are returning from last year's team that finished 14-16 overall and 9-9 in the Big Ten Conference.
  • Included in their returners are the top seven scorers from a year ago, including senior Hannah Whitish, who is a two-time All-Big Ten selection.
  • The current sophomore class combined for the most points (893) by a Husker freshman class since 1981-82.
Up Next
The Lady Bulldogs head to California for the next two games as they face off against San Diego State on Thursday, Nov. 14 and California Baptist University on Saturday, Nov. 16.
