Men's Basketball Take on South Alabama in Fourth In-State Match of the Season

MOBILE, Ala. __ The Alabama A&M men's basketball team will open up their final three-game stretch of non-conference games on the season, as travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on South Alabama at the Mitchell Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT. 

The upcoming matchup will be the second straight year the two teams have met and fourth all-time, with South Alabama winning all four matches of the series. The Bulldogs lost the last meeting 79-67 on Dec. 12, 2019, in the Mitchell Center.

The Broadcast
  • Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+ with J.D. Byars (play-by-play) and Pat Greenwood handling color commentary.
  • The radio broadcast can be heard on 99.5 FM the Jag, with J.T. Crabtree (play-by-play) on the call. 

About A&M
  • The Bulldogs enter the South Alabama contest following a tough 88-74 road loss to the University of Miami on Saturday, where the Hurricanes needed a late run to secure the win. Jalen Johnson led the team in scoring with 14 points off the bench.
  • On the season, Alabama A&M is shooting 39 percent from the field and 11.1 assists per game (both 7th in SWAC), whille shooting 28.7 percent from three-point range and recording 7.4 steals per game, which are both 6th in the conference.
  • Three A&M athletes are ranked in the top ten in the SWAC in three-pointers made per game, including TJ Parham ranking fifth (1.9 per game), Garrett Hicks tenth (1.6 per game) and and Brandon Miller at 11th with 1.5 threes per game.
  • Freshman Cameron Alford is leading the Bulldogs in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (5.1) so far, and has scored in double-digits in six of the seven games this season.
  • The Bulldogs have three scorers in the top-25 of the conference in scoring, with Alford being fourth, TJ Parham (10.3) ranked 18th and Garrett Hicks (9.4) ranking 22nd.
 
About USA
  • South Alabama is currently 5-4 on the season, with wins over Pikeville, Southern Miss, Spring Hill, Northeastern and Miami (OH).
  • USA enters Tuesday coming off a 75-57 loss at Richmond on Dec. 8.
  • The Jaguars have posted more points in the second half of games than the opening half in seven games out of nine this season. Coming into Tuesday's game, South Alabama is averaging 43.8 points in the second half, compared to 31.7 points in the first.
  • USA is currently second in the Sun Belt conference shooting 47.3 percent from the field, and have four games at 50% or better.
  • The Jaguars were held to a season-low 33.9 percent shooting from the field on the road at Richmond, making it the first time on the season they were held below 42 percent in a game.

The road matchup is part of the Bulldogs current five-game stretch where four contests will be played away from Elmore Gymnasium. After the contest against the Jaguars, Alabama A&M will return to Elmore for a matchup against in-state foe North Alabama on Friday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. before heading north to face Notre Dame in their last game before starting conference play on the road against Grambling on Jan. 4 in Louisiana (5:30 p.m. CT).
