Offensive outburst leads Alabama A&M to big win over North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Coming into the final home game of the non-conference schedule, Alabama A&M had scored 153 points (76.5 points per game) in their last two games. On Saturday night, an even more stellar offensive performance propelled the Bulldogs (3-7) to a 92-80 win over North Alabama (5-7) in their final home game of 2019.

Alabama A&M's 92 points is the highest point total of the season, their best scoring output since putting up 97 points in a win over Oakwood in 2015, while shooting 45.5 percent and 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Leading 40-39 at halftime, Cameron Alford hit a three-pointer to open the second half, before North Alabama responded with a run to take a 51-45 lead, as the teams went back and forth throughout the half until the Bulldogs managed to take final control by going on a key 13-2 run with seven minutes to play and finishing the game outscoring the Lions 30-20.

Offensively, Alford led the Bulldogs in scoring once again as he finished with a new career-high 26 points. The freshman, who made eight of his fifteen attempts, including three of four from long range, has now scored in double figures in nine of the ten games this season and is leading the team with 14.9 points per game.

Joining him was junior guard Brandon Miller, who had a dominant second half, scoring all 16 of his points his points in the final 20 minutes. Miller went three of six from beyond the arc, including a huge four-point play to put the Bulldogs up 72-62 with just under eight minutes remaining.

Freshmen Jalen Johnson (11) and Garrett Hicks (10) also finished in double figures, while center EJ Williams finished with a season-highs of 10 points eight rebounds.

Friday's win gives the Bulldogs their third straight home non-conference victory for the first time since the 2010-11 season, where they defeated Talladega, Tuskegee and Martin Methodist all before Christmas.
