Women's tennis sweeps Grambling State

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Alabama A&M women's tennis team dominated Grambling State on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bulldogs wrapped up a successful Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule with a 4-0 victory in Shreveport, La.

The Lady Bulldogs won a tightly-contested doubles point, then put in a solid performance in singles play.

Rida Khalid and India Woods took an early 5-0 lead at No. 2 doubles and finished with a 6-1 win. Jasmine Boyd and Anita Bozhko clinched the doubles point, coming back from 4-2 down to win 6-4 at No. 1.

"I thought for a minute we lost the chance to win the doubles point," Alabama A&M tennis coach Willis Mbandi said. "But Jasmine and Anita played really good doubles to secure that doubles point after the rain delay."

In singles, Anita Bozhko extended the lead, winning 6-1, 6-0, followed by India woods 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Jasmine Boyd then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Alabama A&M plays Springhill College on Friday at 10 a.m. at Point Mallard in Decatur.
