Bentley, Glass on Black College Football Player of Year Watchlist

ATLANTAThe Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) announced today the 2019 Watch List for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award. 
 

Alabama A&M quarterback Aqeel Glass and running back Jordan Bentley were on the season's first watch list. 
 

The Award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University. Former North Carolina A&T, and current Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Award in 2016; Bowie State quarterback Amir Hall was the 2017 and 2018 recipient. 


Glass, a 6-foot-5 and 215-pound junior from St. Louis, emerged last season as one of the top quarterbacks in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, leading the league in passing with 2,421 yards and 20 touchdowns. Glass was a second-team selection on the SWAC's Preseason All-Conference team, and he was a second-team selection on the Phil Steele Preseason All-SWAC team.
 


Bentley, a 6-1 and 195-pound senior from Guntersville, Ala., rushed for 509 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He was a second-team selection on the Phil Steele Preseason All-SWAC team.
 


The winner of the 2019 Black College Football Player of the Year Award will be honored with the 
Deacon Jones Trophy during the Black College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which takes place on February 15, 2020 in Atlanta. Four finalists will be unveiled on December 3, 2019. 


Alabama A&M opens the season with Morehouse on Sept. 1 in the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic at Tom Benson Pro Football Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
