Lady Bulldogs Look to Rebound at Home Against Pine Bluff

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ The Alabama A&M basketball programs will enter their first home doubleheader of SWAC play with a contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Jan. 11 beginning at 5 p.m. in T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
 
The Lady Bulldogs are looking to bounce back after a tough opening weekend road trip, while the Golden Lions are coming in with a two-game winning streak.


Opening Tip
  • Alabama A&M is led in points and rebounds by sophomore forward Dariauna Lewis with 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
  • Lewis is not only one of the SWAC leaders in rebounding, but is amongst the leaders in the nation, ranking second nationally in offensive rebounds, with 5.1 per game and 30th in total rebounds.
  • The Lady Bulldogs are second in the SWAC in four different categories including scoring defense (66.6), margin (-4.2), field goal percentage defense (.415) and total rebounds per game (40.5).
  • Four different players average at least six points or more. Lewis tops the team 16.0 per game, while DeShawna Harper is second at 12.8 per game, followed by Nigeria Jones (7.5) and lone senior Jameica Cobb (6.1).
About Arkansas-Pine Bluff
  • After losing their first nine games of the year, UAPB has won two games in a row, including their opening SWAC game on the road at Mississippi Valley 80-77 on last Saturday.
  • The Golden Lions have six players currently scoring at least six points per game. Kyeonia Harris leads the team at 10.3 points and 3.2 assists per contest.
  • Head coach Dawn Brown enters her first year with the team, but is no stranger to SWAC women's basketball. Brown played collegiate ball at Jackson State and also spent six seasons coaching at Prairie View (2010-16) including leading the Panthers to the 2014 SWAC Tournament Championship.

Alabama A&M will remain at home to face off against Mississippi Valley on Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. before taking on rival Alabama State at the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday, Jan. 18 with the double header starting at 3 p.m.
