Lady Bulldogs Win Second Straight In Win Over Mississippi Valley

Box Score HUNTSVILLE __ The Lady Bulldogs have climbed back even in the SWAC standings with their second straight home victory over Mississippi Valley State 68-48, Monday night.

Alabama A&M (6-9, 2-2 SWAC) dominated in the paint area against the Devilettes, led by junior DeShawna Harper who led all scorers wit 19 points, Dariauna Lewis who added 18 points and nine rebounds, along with Jameica Cobb recording a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double.


Quarter-by-Quarter
  • Mississippi Valley State started the game on a 7-0 run before forward Lewis scored the first basket for the Lady Bulldogs with 6:47 remaining in the first. A&M proceeded to go on a 10-0 before Valley responded, though the Bulldogs finished the quarter ahead 21-13. Lewis led all scorers with eight in the opening quarter.
  • Valley also started the scoring off in the second quarter, however the Lady Bulldogs began to take control of the game using a 13-4 run to find themselves up 32-17 with 4:50 to play in the half. Lewis and Harper continued to lead the charge for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points each, as they went into the locker room for halftime up 39-26.
  • The Lady Buldogs continued to control the momentum in the third, as both teams begin to trade baskets, and the lead getting as big as 19 points to end the quarter.
  • With the game well in hand entering the final frame, the Lady Bulldogs maintained control of their lead and finished the game with the 68-48 win.

  • Alabama A&M starters: Nigeria Jones, DeShawna Harper, Jameica Cobb, Dariauna Lewis, Lazurea Saunders
  • The Lady Bulldogs shot 27-for-62 (43.5 percent) from the field as a team for the game, 4-for-18 (22.2 percent) from the three-point line and 10-for-14 from the charity stripe (71.4 percent).
  • Alabama A&M won the battle of the paint area, outscoring the MVSU 30-28 in the lane during the contest.
  • The Lady Bulldogs dominated the rebounding battle as they grabbed 44 total rebounds and 13 offensively for 14 second chance points. Mississippi Valley grabbed 27 total rebounds and only five offensively for five second chance points of their own.
  • The Valley bench outscored the Lady Bulldog bench in the matchup 27-15.
  • Turnovers: Alabama A&M scored 19 points off of 18 Valley turnovers, while the Devilettes scored 11 points off of 20 Bulldog mistakes.
