Alabama A&M Basketball Begin Road Stint at Alcorn State Saturday

HUNTSVILLE __ The Alabama A&M men's and women's basketball teams will look to have a successful road trip as they travel to Lorman, Mississippi to face Alcorn State on Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex for the first of two road conference tests.

The SWAC doubleheader is set for a 3 p.m. tip with the women's game, followed by the men's game at 5:30 p.m. The games will be streamed live on the Braves All-Access channel, live stats will be available online at alcornsports.com, along with and a radio broadcast, which can be found at WPRL 91.7 the Gold (https://www.wprl.org). This will mark the first of two contests this season between the conference opponents, as Alcorn will play the return game in Huntsville on Feb. 22 (4 p.m. CT).

The Lady Bulldogs (7-9 overall, 3-2 SWAC) are looking to continue their three-game conference win streak and redeem themselves from their previous road trip.

The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant win over in-state rival Alabama State, where three players found themselves in double figures with forward Dariauna Lewis finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds, while guards Deshawna Harper and Nigeria Jones both played well ending with 14 points each.

Alcorn State (8-10 overall, 4-2 SWAC) enter the contest on a three-game winning streak after defeating Mississippi Valley, 81-67, this past Saturday and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 77-75, on Monday. The Lady Braves are led by guards LaRae Rasco, who is leading the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and Jada Hargrove, who is second on the team with 10.2 points per game. The team's third leading scorer, junior Kirdis Clark, was tabbed the SWAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, as she averaged 19 points and four rebounds over the last two games.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs (5-11 overall, 2-3 SWAC) are looking to get back on track after two straight conference losses. Freshmen continue to be big impacts for the Bulldogs as guard Cameron Alford leads the squad in points (14.6) and rebounds (5.0), Garrett Hicks is second in scoring at 9.1 points per game and lead guard Cameron Tucker is averaging a team-high 3.3 assists per contest.

Alcorn State (8-9 overall, 4-2 SWAC) is coming into the matchup also winning three in a row like the women's team, after dominant wins over Mississippi Valley, 105-73, as well as Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 82-54. The Braves have four players averaging over 13 points per contest, including senior forward Deshaw Andrews, who averaged 24 points and 3.5 rebounds over the two previous games, earning him SWAC Player of the Week honors as well.
