Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | AAMU Sports Information

Men's basketball falls at Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — With one last shot at forcing overtime, Evan Wiley fired up a 3-pointer from midcourt.

The shot fell short of the rim — as did Alabama A&M's hopes for a significant road win.

Alabama State used a late surge to top rival Alabama A&M 61-58 Saturday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

For Alabama A&M (6-17), it was a night of missed opportunities.
Trying to notch its first win against Alabama State since January 2016, Alabama A&M appeared poised to end the four-year skid. The Bulldogs led the majority of the game — including almost the entire final eight minutes of the game.

But in the end, missed opportunities at the free-throw line turned out to be costly. Alabama A&M finished 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from the stripe, while Alabama State made 27 of 42 attempts, accounting for almost half of the Hornets' points.

Garrett Hicks led Alabama A&M with 14 points, making three 3-pointers. Cameron Alford finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Cameron Tucker scored 10 points with six rebounds.

Alabama State took the lead with seven seconds remaining on a Jacoby Ross layup.
