AAMU Basketball set to Host Alcorn State for Greek Night and White Out

2/18/2020 11:59:00 AM

HUNTSVILLE — The Alabama A&M basketball programs are set to hold their Greek Night and White Out events this weekend when the Bulldogs host Alcorn State for a pair of SWAC contests.

The women's basketball team tips off at 4 p.m., with the men's game starting at 6 p.m. Fans are asked to wear white, while there will be performances during halftime from representatives of Greek Organizations on campus and an off campus social organization. Free white out t-shirts will be available to the first fans through the gate.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-11, 8-4) will host the Lady Braves (10-14, 6-6) on Saturday after a nail-biting one-point win over rival Alabama State, to clinch the season sweep over the Lady Hornets for the first time since entering the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The game will be streamed on the AAMU Athletics Youtube Channel, with live stats being available online at aamusports.com.

A&M is being led by forward Dariauna Lewis who averages team-highs of 16.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest, along with guard DeShawna Harper who is second in scoring at 13.4 points per game and Nigeria Jones, the hero of the huge win last Saturday, who averages 8.1 points and 3.1 assists per game. Guard and lone senior Jameica Cobb has also played solid thus far, putting up 6.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while leading A&M with 3.2 assists per contest. A win would give the Lady Bulldogs their ninth conference win on the year and secure at least a .500 conference record for the first time since the 2011-12 season, where the team went 12-6 in the SWAC.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs (6-17, 3-9) are coming off of two road losses before facing off against the Braves (11-12, 7-5) on Saturday night. Also available via live stats and the AAMU Athletics Youtube Channel.

The three freshmen guards have led the way so far for the Bulldogs as Cameron Alford leads the team in scoring (13.8), rebounding (5.4) and steals (1.3). Local product Garrett Hicks is the only other Bulldog averaging double figures at 10.2 points and a steal a game, while Montgomery native Cameron Tucker is third in scoring at 7.3 points and leads the team in assists at 3.7 assist per contest. The team is looking to build on their six wins this season, the most since the 2015-16 calendar year.
