Baseball drops home-opener to UT-Martin

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — JanMikell Bastardo pounded out three hits, but it wasn't enough as UT-Martin topped the Bulldogs 8-3 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game.

Alabama A&M (0-4) hosts Western Michigan on Friday to open a four-game series. Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Bastardo was one swing away from hitting for the cycle. The freshman outfielder opened the game with a single and a double before hitting a triple to right-center field in the fifth inning, but he flied out in the ninth inning.

Pierre Brewton finished with two hits and an RBI, while Dillon Roop and Sam Mickels each added a hit and an RBI.

In this mid-week non-conference game, each team used seven pitchers. Alabama A&M took a 2-0 lead into the third inning after scoring one in the first and second innings, respectively. But UT-Martin (2-2) rallied back in third inning with three runs and the Skyhawks never trailed again.
