HUNTSVILLE __ Alabama A&M men's basketball faces Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M in Houston this weekend as they continue their quest for a SWAC Tournament bid.

The Bulldogs (7-18, 4-10 SWAC) head to Texas this weekend to take on Texas Southern (13-14, 10-4 SWAC) Saturday and Prairie View A&M (16-11, 12-2 SWAC) on Monday, both scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Alabama A&M is currently in the eighth spot in the conference, three games behind Jackson State and Alabama State in the loss column and a game ahead of ninth place Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The team is looking to split the season series with both schools, as they fell to Texas Southern 82-73 on Feb. 1 and Prairie View 69-54 on Feb. 3, both in Elmore Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 1-1 home stand last week, defeating Alcorn State on Saturday and falling to Southern on Monday night. Guard play has been key for A&M so far as their three freshmen guards have all been key contributors for the team this season. Indiana native Cameron Alford leads the team in scoring and rebounding, with 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Alabama products Garrett Hicks and Cameron Tucker have also provided strong play, as Hicks is the lone other double figure scorer at 10.3 points per, and Tucker leads the team in assists at 3.5 per contest.

Texas Southern has won three of four coming into the weekend, with their last game being a 74-72 loss in overtime at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Tigers have four players averaging nine or more points, led by guard Tyrik Armstrong who leads the team in both scoring (14.1) and assists (4.3) per game. Huntsville native Justin Hopkins along with forward Eden Ewing average 10.2 points per contest, while forward Yahuza Rasas scores 10.0 points and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per contest.

Prairie View A&M is coming off an 88-69 win on the road at Mississippi Valley, and have won six straight and ten of their last eleven games coming into the weekend. The Panthers have three scorers averaging double figures led by senior guard Gerard Andrus at 15.0 points per contest. Senior forward Devonte Patterson is the second leading scorer at 14.8 and leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 per game, while Darius Williams rounds out the double-digit scoring trio at 11.6 points per game.
