Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Alabama A&M softball swept the doubleheader on the road against the Savannah State Lady Tigers 8-1 and 8-4 on Saturday.

GAME ONE

Senior Danielle Hansell led the Lady Bulldogs offensively in the first game of the day against the Lady Tigers, recording three hits, two runs batted in and a score of her own in her five at bats.

Sophomore infielders Lisabelle Hansell and Rachel McKinney also had strong performances as they both earned two hits and a run scored, while Hansell also added an RBI to her game.

Tamia Lee-Barbadillo and Jacqueline Rookaird scored the remaining two runs in the matchup, each adding a hit and RBI as well.

Alyssa Lopez (1-3) pitched a complete game on the mound, facing 27 batters, giving up only one run on six hits. Lopez forced seven fly outs, six ground outs and struck out six batters in the win.

GAME TWO

The Lady Bulldogs matched their run total from game one in the second game of the day, this time recording 14 hits to get eight runs.

Sophomores Lisabelle Hansell and Rachel McKinney continued their successful day from the plate, as Hansell recorded three hits, scored two runs and batted in two runs, while McKinley finished with two hits and two RBIs in the contest.

Six other Lady Bulldogs managed to earn hits during game two, including freshman Taylor Woods who finished the second matchup with three hits and two runs scored. Tamia Lee- Barbadillo earned one hit, two RBIs and two scores, while Danielle Hansell and Tia Davis scored the remaining runs during the game.

Savannah State scored one run apiece in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings of game two, while the Bulldogs scored three in the first and fourth, and added the final two runs in the sixth inning.

McHailee Danner (1-4) pitched five innings in the circle, faced 22 batters and allowed four runs off of three hits in the win, while also recording two strike outs. Jacqueline Rookaird pitched two innings in relief, and struck out three of the seven batters she faced.

Up Next
The Lady Bulldogs return to the diamond on Sunday for the final game of the series against Savannah State before playing on Tuesday for a game against in-state rival North Alabama (Mar. 3, 2 p.m.) in Florence, Ala. at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium.
