LINCOLN, Neb. – Taking on one of their toughest opponents of the season, Alabama A&M (0-3, 0-0 SWAC) dropped an 88-33 decision at Nebraska (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) in an NCAA Division I women's basketball game on Sunday, November 14.
Senior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb) led the Bulldogs with six points and seven rebounds while graduate forward
Kierra Johnson-Graham (Atlanta, Ga.) had nine points behind 5-of-5 shooting from the foul line. Freshman guard
Jill Harris (Navarre, Fla.) chipped in with six points and senior center
Jada Clowers (Macon, Ga.) had four points, three rebounds and an assist.
Lewis would score the first bucket of the game to give A&M a 2-0 lead but the Cornhuskers would take firm control from there as they scored 25 straight points to take a 25-2 lead before closing the opening frame with a 21 point advantage.
Beginning with a pair of free throws at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs would score nine straight to pull to within 25-11 by the 7:23 mark. Seven of those nine points would come from Johnson-Graham and help A&M play nearly even with Nebraska the rest of the half before heading to the break down just 34-19.
The Cornhuskers would then take complete command as they scored 18 straight points to open the third quarter to extend their lead to 52-19 by the 5:23 mark. They would then slowly expand that margin over the remainder of the frame, taking a 64-29 advantage into the fourth. That period would see them open with a massive 23-2 run before closing out the 88-33 victory.
Isabelle Bourne would led Nebraska with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with six rebounds and Shelley Jaz just missed a double-double with eight points and 12 boards along with six assists and a pair of steals. Bella Cravens added eight points and seven caroms and Ashley Scoggin and Sam Haiby each finished with eight points to round out the top performers.
Alabama A&M returns to action on Thursday, November 18 when they take the short drive to Nashville, Tennessee to face Belmont. That game is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Curb Event Center.
