BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, graduate quarterback
Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week, this time following a record-setting performance, as announced by that organization on Monday, November 15.
Glass continues to make history as he delivered time and time again, this time in a thrilling 52-49 come-from-behind victory at Texas Southern (11/13) this past weekend.
The National Football League (NFL) prospect threw for a Division I Era program record 462 yards on 33-of-52 passing to go with five touchdowns and no interceptions. He surpassed his own record of 446 yards set at Grambling on October 2 of this year and did so in dramatic fashion.
Trailing 49-38 with just over 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Glass got the Bulldogs within five with 6:47 to play. Getting the ball back with 4:52 on the clock, he then engineered a 13-play, 70-yard drive that ended up in the endzone with what would be a game-winning touchdown pass to cap a possession that killed all but the final 42 seconds.
Glass earned the honor for the first time this season on September 6 and has since been joined by senior running back
Gary Quarles (Cottondale, Ala.) on September 20 and senior wideout
Dee Anderson (Dallas, Texas) just last week.
The Bulldogs and Glass close out the season at home on Saturday, November 20 when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Louis Crews Stadium.
