HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Even with the most unique season in program history less than a month away, Alabama A&M football continues to build for the future and is garnering recognition for the talent coming into the program as BOXTOROW has named their early signing class No. 7 in the country among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
Now in its 15
th year of ranking the Top-10 HBCU Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) recruiting classes, BOXTOROW has released the Spring 2021 edition of their rankings. That list of 11 (with a tie at No. 10) includes six schools that are either current members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) or will be when they resume play later this year.
Headlining the list is Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders' Jackson State program which is followed by North Carolina A&T, Florida A&M, Grambling and Bethune-Cookman in the top five. Ohio Valley Conference member Tennessee State comes in at No. 6, the Bulldogs at No. 7, Prairie View A&M at No. 8, South Carolina State at No. 9 and Howard and Morgan State in a tie for No. 10.
To illustrate the strength of the recruiting classes in the SWAC, of the 11 teams in this year's rankings, Jackson State, Grambling, A&M and Prairie View are current members of the league while FAMU and Bethune-Cookman will join the conference officially later this year.
BOXTOROW ALABAMA A&M RECRUITING RECAP (RANKED NO. 7)
Whenever you can get a three-star quarterback, you are doing something special. When you can get two, you are off the charts.
The Bulldogs have the quarterback of now and presumably the future.
Aqeel Glass is one of the best pro prospects at quarterback in the country and in 2019 threw for 3,600 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Head coach
Connell Maynor (who knows a little something about quarterbacks) and his staff looked to the future when signing CJ Dixon who prepped at Jirek Prep and played at Grayson in Loganville, Ga.
He was ranked four stars by ESPN in 2019. He's the kind of pro-style quarterback
Connell Maynor likes as he has good size, standing 6-6 and weighing 220 pounds. Dixon had offers from Alabama, Illinois, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Maryland, Ohio State, Georgia and others.
Kaden McMullen from Living Word Christian in O'Fallon, Mo. is a three-star recruit who passed for 6,898 yards and 73 TDs and rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 TDs in three years of varsity. McMullen received offers from Boise State and Missouri amongst others.
