Alabama A&M Sees Seven-Game Win Streak Snapped With 13-0 Loss To League Leading Jackson State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The top team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) would score early and often to set the tone as Alabama A&M (9-13, 9-8 SWAC) saw their seven-game win streak come to a close as they dropped a 13-0 decision to Jackson State (25-8, 19-0 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I baseball game on Friday, April 30.

The Tigers would score 10 runs over the first four innings and would get that started with a single run in the first before pounding out four hits and capitalizing on an error for five runs in the second. A&M would hold JSU to that 6-0 margin the following inning but surrender four more in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Chandler Dillard that also saw him come home on an error.

That extended the lead to 10-0 and Jackson State would add a run in the fifth and two in the seventh to reach the final margin of 13-0.

Freshman outfielder Janmikell Bastardo (Fort Myers, Fla.) had one of the three hits for the Bulldogs, going 1-for-2 with a walk while freshman infielder Alden Moore (Shreveport, La.) delivered a pinch hit single to go 1-for-1. Sophomore catcher Dillon Roop (New Market, Ala.) had the only other hit for A&M and junior pitcher Jose Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) suffered the loss (4-3) as he allowed nine runs, but only four earned, in three innings of work

CJ Newsome was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored to pace the Tigers while Jatavious Melton was 3-for-5 with three runs and one batted in. Dillard had a pair of RBIs with his triple, Chevy Dorris added two RBIs and Ty Hill was 3-for-5 with a run and RBI to round out the offense. Anthony Becerra went the distance, throwing seven scoreless and three-hit innings while striking out 11. He improves to 6-1.

Alabama A&M is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, May 1 for the middle game of the series. That is slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch at Bulldog Field.
