HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – As part of ongoing efforts to engage and support its community, Alabama A&M Athletics, with the support of Protective Life Corporation (Protective), has named the Harris Home for Children as the first recipient of the Protective Life Community Captains Program.
As part of the recently announced sponsorship agreement with Protective, the Protective Life Community Captains program highlights local non-profit community groups for their outreach and impact in the greater Huntsville community. Protective is committed to improving the quality of life in local communities and collaborating with others, like A&M, to create the greatest possible impact.
Through their sponsorship agreement, both A&M and Protective will recognize individuals or organizations that make a difference in the North Alabama area with their outreach and impact. This will take the form of both online and in-person presentations during home football or basketball games.
The first Protective Life Community Captain of the season is the Harris Home for Children, which offers home and support services for neglected children as well as those in crisis situations. It provides opportunities for these children to flourish in life and become great citizens not only in Huntsville but wherever they may go after their time with Harris.
"We are proud to be the first to be named a Protective Life Community Captain for Alabama A&M University Athletics," said Executive Director Reggie McKenzie. "At Harris Home, we service over five programs, including the only crisis program in the state of Alabama. This year we'll reach a milestone in touching over one million lives throughout Alabama, and we're proud Protective and Alabama A&M University Athletics are helping spread awareness of our impact."
Throughout the year, Protective and A&M will continue to promote organizations working to make things better for the people of Huntsville.
