HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In a continuing effort to provide the best coverage of Alabama A&M Athletics, sports information director
Joshua J. Darling has announced the addition of
Terrisa Mark as assistant sports information director on Monday, August 2.
"As we began the process of filling this key role on our staff, we were thoroughly impressed with Terrisa's diverse experience and how she has risen through the ranks in such a short time," said Darling. "We believe that she will make an immediate difference as we continue to elevate our coverage of A&M Athletics, particularly in the areas of social media and video content. We are very excited to have her onboard and look forward to what she will accomplish."
A native of the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago, Mark comes to The Hill with six years of sports reporting experience covering the NAIA, NCAA, NBA and junior college levels following 13 years as a track sprinter. Most recently she served as the sports information director at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Mississippi during the 2020-21 season.
During her time with the Tigers, she was solely responsible for covering the college's eight teams, including cheerleading, football, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball.
Her role also included orchestrating live stream broadcasts of games and creating highlight videos that showcased Tigers Athletics. Additionally, she was also responsible for inputting each program's statistics as well as generating graphics and content on all social media platforms.
Mark also produced extensive coverage on the women's basketball team which won the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) North Division and were runners-up at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament.
Prior to her time at Coahoma she was a freelance reporter for
The New Tri-State Defender (2019-20) newspaper located in Memphis, Tennessee. There she would pick up her first extensive experience covering college basketball as the beat writer for NCAA Division II and Historically Black College and University (HBCU) member LeMoyne-Owen College.
In addition to providing high level coverage of LOC she earned a promotion covering the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Memphis Grizzlies who had just acquired future star Ja Morant with the No. 2 overall draft selection.
In this position Mark wrote feature stories detailing Grizzlies' games against the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets among others. She also conducted research and reported on the extensive coverage of the death of George Floyd and the historic protests that took place in downtown Memphis.
While in Memphis she also gained broadcast experience, putting her background in television production to use as she began her professional career at Memphis news powerhouse Fox 13. While there she worked with the production crew assisting both news and sports segments and was in charge of working with the production manager to create and run graphics for live shows. Additionally, she controlled and worked the cameras during live and breaking news.
During her time at Wiley College from 2013-17, Mark was an All-American runner and 100- and 200-meter Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) champion before transferring to Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) member Miami, earning a walk-on spot for her final year competing in track & field.
As a graduate student at Miami from 2017-19, she earned a position as an anchor and reporter for the college's television station with her duties including creating sports and news packages and interviewing athletes.
Shortly after obtaining her master's degree in journalism, the Trinidad Express newspaper presented her the opportunity for her to report on the country's athletes' performances at the 2019 Pan American Games. There she conducted interviews following the athlete's performances and wrote releases to keep the country informed and up to date.
"I am excited and honored to be part of the SID office at Alabama A&M," said Mark. "I was extremely impressed with the institution and all they have accomplished, especially in Athletics. The teams and coaching staff are so diverse and talented and I cannot wait to work with each and every one of them. I would like to thank Director of Athletics
Bryan Hicks, SID
Joshua J. Darling and the entire hiring committee for this amazing opportunity".
Mark will be directly responsible for the coverage of women's cross country, women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's basketball, bowling, baseball and women's indoor and outdoor track & field and men's tennis while serving as a secondary contact for football.
