HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (4-14, 3-5 SWAC) could not withstand an offense barrage from Florida A&M (8-11, 6-2 SWAC) in the second half and dropped a 65-60 decision in an NCAA Division I men's basketball game on Saturday, January 29.
Junior forward
Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bulldogs with a game high 26 points, and three rebounds while junior guard
Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) added 18 points, three boards and three steals. Senior forward
Myles Parker (Huntsville, Ala.) chipped in with seven points while sophomore guard
Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added five points and five boards.
Over the first six minutes the Rattlers built a 13-5 lead that included six points from DJ Jones. The Bulldogs would respond with a 20-11 rally that consisted of 12 points from Hicks to flip the switch and take the lead, 25-24 with 6:12 showing on the clock. For the remainder of the frame FAMU would score 6 of 11 to tie the game to 30-30 heading into the break.
Florida A&M would start the second half with a bang registering a 30-15 run that included eight points each from Johnny Brown and MJ Randolph to take the lead to 60-45 with 3:31 left on the clock.
Over the next three minutes the Bulldogs would have a 12-2 burst to close the gap and trail 62-57 with 38 seconds remaining. From there both teams would score three points each and the Rattlers would keep their advantage to close out the 65-60 victory.
Randolph would lead FAMU with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists with Brown following with 14 points and two assists. Jones added 13 points and two rebounds while Kamron Reaves finished with eight points, seven boards and six assists to round out the top performers.
Alabama A&M will return to the court on Monday, January 31 as they host Bethune-Cookman. Game time is set for 7p.m. at Elmore Gymnasium.
