Offensive Barrage Out Of Half By Grambling Sinks Alabama A&M 2-0 in SWAC Action

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Following a scoreless first half, with a position player in goal, Alabama A&M (3-8-1, 1-2-1 SWAC) had one bad minute that determined their fate as they fell 2-0 to Grambling (6-7-2, 3-1-2 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's soccer game on Sunday, October 9.

With junior midfielder Anouck Heyer (Bornheim, Germany) playing out of position between the pipes to start the game, the Bulldogs would hold GSU scoreless in the first half. Heyer would leave with an injury after the 22:50 mark before returning to play the field and sophomore goalkeeper Madalynn Tanksley (Round Rock, Texas) relieved her, turning away the rest of the Tigers six shots to send it to half deadlocked at 0-0.

That would change rapidly at the start of the second half, however, as Grambling blitzed A&M for a pair of goals in a span of 1:08. The first would come from Mackenzie Rastatter off a pass from Imagen Fowler from the endline at the 47:13 mark and would be followed almost immediately as Sydney Gober found Karlyn Judge in front of the net for a second score at 48:21.

From there the Bulldog defense would lock back in and turn away the six remaining shots by GSU but the damage was done as the Tigers allowed just three shots on their way to a 2-0 victory.

A&M would manage just five shots, putting three on goal, and Tanksley would play the lion's share of the minutes in goal, finishing with 41:59 and allowing both scores to fall to 0-1.

Rastatter and Judge led Grambling with a goal apiece and Gober and Fowler delivered an assist each to round out the top offensive performances. Madison Covey-Taylor went the distance in net, logging three saves on her way to the shutout.

A&M returns to action on Friday, October 14 as they travel to Southern. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
