Toni Grace each scored a game-high 19 points, but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M women's basketball team fell to Tennessee Tech University 78-68 on Saturday afternoon in Cookeville, Tenn.
The Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-7, 0-0 SWAC, while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-3, 0-0 OVC.
AAMU came out firing on all cylinders to start the game taking an early 9-2 lead at the first media time-out. The Lady Bulldogs would continue playing well and finished the period with a 16-13 lead. The tide would change in the 2nd period as the Golden Eagles would outscore Alabama A&M 22-13 taking a 35-29 lead into the locker rooms.
Tennessee Tech would continue their solid play in 2nd half and mounted their largest lead of the game (48-36) with 3:45 remaining in the 3rd period. AAMU fought back but couldn't overcome TTU's blistering shooting as the Golden Eagles shot 80-percent (8-of-10) from the field in the final period on their way to the 78-68 victory.
Turning Point
After coming back from a 12 point deficit and cutting the Tennessee Tech lead to 60-58 with 4:53 remaining in the 4th period, Alabama A&M ran out of steam and was outscored 18-10 the rest of the way, before falling 78-68.
Individual Leaders
Free (Clay, N.Y,) and Grace (Fishers, Ind.) led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points, while junior guard
Taylor Smith (Fosters, Ala.) finished with 13 points and two assist off the bench.
The Golden Eagles were led by Maaliya Owens who finished with a team-high 16 points.
