MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama A&M (4-7, 4-0 SWAC) remained undefeated in league play as they dominated Mississippi Valley State (0-8, 0-4 SWAC) 7-0 in straight sets in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Thursday, March 10. The Bulldogs would deliver 6-0 decisions in doubles play and perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores in singles action.
Doubles play would see freshman
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) and senior
India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) claim victory at No. 3 while juniors Ximena D. Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) locked up the doubles point at the two spot. Junior
Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.) and sophomore
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) led their match 5-0 when A&M claimed doubles.
It would be more of the same in singles as all six players delivered 6-0, 6-0 decisions, led by Ruiz Diaz, Ghare and Woods the bottom three positions. That would secure the match, and without the result in doubt, the Bulldogs kept pounding as Brown, Ramirez and Boyd claimed wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 1, respectively, to wrap up the 7-0 victory.
Alabama A&M looks to continue their undefeated start at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pod as they take on Florida A&M at 9 a.m. tomorrow. They will then follow with matches against top contender Prairie View and Alcorn State over the weekend.
