Alabama A&M Baseball Delivers 5-3 Decision Over Stillman

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (2-11, 0-0 SWAC) delivered a 5-3 decision against Stillman College (6-12, 0-5 SSAC) on Tuesday, March 15 in an NCAA Division I baseball game.

Following a scoreless first inning, the Tigers would register a run in the second as Kendall Reese singled up the middle to allow Dani Powell to score and create a 1-0 lead.

The score would stay that way until the Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third as right fielder Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) would score on a fielding error to even the game, 1-1. SC would answer in the top of the fourth as Lazaro Rodriguez came home on a passed ball to take the advantage 2-1.

Neither team would add a run during the fifth inning but the Tigers would try responding in the sixth with all bases loaded before Justin Cummings, Powell and Reese were all struck out by freshman pitcher Avery Seaton (Huntsville, Ala.).

Stillman would get the answer in the top of the seventh as Mason Collins singled to left center to bring home Bilal Whittle and extend the score to 3-1. The Bulldogs would then change the course of the game as second baseman Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) walked and allowed left fielder Nemo Wright (PG Country, Md.) to score before catcher Dillon Roop (New Market, Ala.) was hit by the pitcher and second baseman Malachi Gilbert (Decatur, Ga.) came home to tie the game, 3-3.

AAMU would continue their offensive barrage as sophomore first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) singled to first base to bring home freshman center fielder Devin Tonkins (Greensboro, N.C.) and take the lead, 4-3 before third baseman Jalen Ford (Birmingham, Ala.) walked and Stocking scored the final run of the inning.

From there, defense would rule the day as neither team would score over the final two innings as the Bulldogs wrapped up the 5-3 victory.

Collins led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 day and an RBI while Powell was 1-of-3 and a run scored. Whittle went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Rodriguez was 1-of-3 with a run to round out the top offensive performers.
