NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama A&M (5-11, 5-2 SWAC) played from behind from the beginning and could not recover as they dropped a 4-0 decision at Belmont (7-5, 0-0 OVC) in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Sunday, March 20.
The Bruins jumped out ahead early in doubles, registering identical 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
They would quickly build upon that as Meredith Roberts posted a 6-0, 6-0 decision over sophomore
Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.) at No. 6 singles before freshman
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) fell by a 6-1, 6-0 score at the second spot. Abi Solomon then put the match away as she topped junior
Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
Alabama A&M is back in action with their rivalry match, and one key to their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings, when they host Alabama State on Saturday, March 26. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Huntsville Tennis Center.
