Alabama A&M Delivers 15-9 Decision Against Jackson State On Final Day of Three Game Series

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Alabama A&M (5-14, 3-3 SWAC) delivered a barrage of runs in the third inning to help fuel a 15-9 decision over Jackson State (12-12 1-5 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I baseball game on Sunday, March 27.

In the first inning the Bulldogs would scratch the scoreboard as junior catcher Jared Tribett (Lumberton. Miss.) singled up the middle to bring home freshman left fielder Janmikell Bastardo (Fort Myers, Fla.) and graduate right fielder Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) for a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers would then respond in the top of the second inning as Marshall Luiz singled to third base and Asher Akridge scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. AAMU would then answer loudly as Dixon homered to right field and brought home graduate Nemo Wright (PG county, Md.) to extend the advantage to 4-1.

In the top of the third JSU would follow along and Ty Hill would hit a homer to center field before Luiz singled to right field and brought home El'Rico Riley and Akridge would score on a throwing error to even the game, 4-4. AAMU would then respond with a barrage of runs in the bottom of the inning as sophomore short stop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) singled to right center to bring home freshman infielder Kylan Duncan (Huntsville, Ala.) and freshman third baseman Jalen Ford (Birmingham, Ala.).

With bases loaded Tribett homered to right field and Bastardo, Stocking and freshman designated hitter Brycen Hammonds (Madison, Ala.)  came home for a 10-4 lead. The score would remain the same until the top of fifth inning as Riley singled through left side and Hill scored to close the gap to 10-5.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alabama A&M answered as Tribett tripled to right center and Bastardo came home to extend the lead to 11-5. JSU would then answer in the top of sixth with a run each from Omar Gomez-Rivera and Chevalier Dorris Jr. before Jaelen Williams singled up the middle to bring home Devontae Rhodes and Jatavis Melton to cut the deficit to 11-9. The Bulldogs would respond in the bottom of the inning as Dixon singled to right field and Duncan scored to increase the advantage to 12-9.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the seventh inning with another barrage  from the Bulldogs as Ford singled up the middle to bring home Bastardo before sophomore first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.)  scored and Dixon walked to allow Ford to come home and push the score to 15-9.

For the remaining two innings pitching would rule the day and neither team would affect the score as the Bulldogs would secure the game and series against JSU.
