Alabama A&M Women’s Tennis Bludgeons Tennessee State 7-0 In Regular Season Finale

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In their last tune up before the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament, Alabama A&M (6-14, 5-4 SWAC) leveled Tennessee State (0-8, 0-0 OVC) in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Sunday, April 10.

With TSU playing with only five players the Bulldogs would be halfway there when it came to doubles as freshman Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) and senior India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) picked up the forfeit at No. 3. Juniors Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) would then put the doubles point away with a 6-3 win over Presly Hall and Daniela Koleva at No. 2.

That 1-0 lead would immediately double entering singles as the Tigers could only field five players and forfeited the No. 6 position to sophomore Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.). Woods then posted a 6-0, 6-0 straight sets victory over Mckhia McCrary at No. 5 and junior Neha Ghare (Pune, India) defeated Presly Hall 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth spot to secure the match victory.

With the outcome no longer in doubt, A&M would then notch three straight victories. That would be led by senior Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.), who claimed No. 1 singles by that same 6-0, 6-2 score over Franka Sindicic, before Ramirez outlasted Naomi Von Bose 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Ruiz Diaz then put at the final of 7-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Koleva at the third spot.

Alabama A&M has now closed the regular season and will next be in action when they head to the "Big Easy" for the 2022 SWAC Tournament. This year's tournament will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana from April 22-24. They currently sit in a three-way tie for fourth with official seeding and pairings to be announced by the league office in the near future.
