Alabama A&M Baseball Delivers An Upset 6-5 Decision At Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama A&M (7-25, 4-13 SWAC) delivered a 6-5 decision at Florida A&M (17-23, 11-6 SWAC) on Saturday, April 23 in an NCAA Division I baseball game.
 
The Rattlers would register a run in the bottom of the first inning as Grant Rowell flied out to right field and Zeddric Burnham scored for a 1-0 lead. They would then capitalize in the bottom of second inning with LJ Bryant homering to left field before Ethan Jenkins followed along with a home run also to left field to push the advantage to 3-0.
 
The Bulldogs would finally respond in the top of the third inning as sophomore short stop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) grounded out and graduate center fielder Nemo Wright (PG County, Md.) scored to cut the lead by two. AAMU would add another run in the top of the fourth inning with junior third baseman Tommy Easley (Acworth, Ga.) singnaling to center field and brought home sophomore first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) to close the gap to 3-2.
 
AAMU would then tie the game as junior designated hitter Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) singled through the right side and allowed Stocking to score. The Bulldogs would continue their offensive barrage in the top of the sixth inning as Easley scored on a wild pitch to take the lead, 4-3.
 
Pitching would rule until the top of the eighth inning as Alabama A&M would take their biggest lead of the afternoon as freshman left fielder Janmikel Bastardo (Fort Myers, Fla.) homered to left field and brought home Berkemeyer for a 6-3 advantage.
 
FAMU would then respond in the bottom of the inning as Jared Weber doubled down the left field line and Rowell came home to cut the lead by two. They would then capitalize in the bottom of the ninth and final inning as Weber lined out at center field and Jalen Niles scored, but it would not be good enough as the Bulldogs would secure the 6-5 victory.
 
Weber led the Rattlers with a 2-for-4 day and two RBIs while Rowell was 2-of-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Both Bryant and Jenkins went 1-for-3 with one home run, an RBI and a run scored to round out the top offensive performers. DJ Wilkinson threw six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out six to fall to 3-4. 
 
Bastardo led the Bulldogs with a 1-for-4 day, two RBIs, a home run and a run scored while Easley was 2-of-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Ford went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Stocking was 1-of-2 with an RBI and one scored run while Berkemeyer went 1-for-3 with a pair of scored runs. Junior pitcher Josue Torres (Cidra, Puerto Rico.) threw 7.1 inning, allowing only four earned runs and struck out three to move to 1-4.

AAMU will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, April 24 for their final game of the series against Florida A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
