Alabama A&M Baseball Deliver Upset 5-4 Decision Against Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Alabama A&M (13-32, 9-17 SWAC) answered in the final inning to deliver a 5-4 decision against Bethune-Cookman (22-28, 16-10 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I baseball game on Saturday, May 14.
 
The Bulldogs would unleash a barrage of runs in the top of the first inning as junior second baseman Tommy Easley (Acworth, Ga.) singled to left field and brought home graduate left fielder Nemo Wright (PG County, Md.) before freshman Jalen Ford (Birmingham, Ala.) walked and allowed sophmore short stop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) to score.

Sophomore catcher Dillon Roop (New Market, Ala.) would then single to left field and graduate first baseman Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) scored for the Bulldogs to lead 3-0.

The Wildcats would then answer in the bottom of the inning with Mathew Garcia signaling and Malik Stephens scored on a throwing error before Irvin Escobar singled up the middle and brought home Garcia to close the gap to 3-2.

B-CU would then capitalize in the bottom of the third inning as Manny Souffrain singled to right field and allowed Christopher Patterson to score and even the game, 3-3. AAMU would then answer in the top of the fourth inning as Wright stole home to increase the advantage by one.

The Wildcats would then respond as Boris Pena flied out to center field and allowed Patterson to score to once again even the game, 4-4. Pitching would rule and neither team would add any runs until the top of the ninth inning as the Bulldogs answered with Easely tripling and allowed first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) to score and close out the 5-4 victory.

Patterson led the Wildcats with a 2-of-5 day and two scored runs while Escobar went 3-of-4 with an RBI. Amir Asghar threw 0.2 innings, striking out one allowing one earned run to fall to 0-2.
 
Easley led the Bulldogs with a 2-of-5 day and two RBIs while Wright was 2-of-4 with a pair of runs scored. Roop was 2-of-3 with an RBI. Junior pitcher Tyler Campbell (Albuquerque, N.W.) threw two innings allowing no earned runs and struck out three to move to 1-7.
 
AAMU will wrap up the series against B-CU tomorrow, Sunday, May 15 with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
