Alabama A&M Delivers Upset 10-7 Victory Against Rival Alabama State On Senior Day

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Alabama A&M (14-35, 10-20 SWAC) showed up and showed out on Senior Day upsetting rival Alabama State (30-23, 21-8 SWAC) and ending their six game winining streak with a 10-7 decision in an NCAA Division I baseball game on Saturday, May 21. This was the AAMU's first win in their last 11 outings against ASU.

The Hornets would register a run in the top of the first inning as Hunter May grounded out at third base and brought home Corey King for a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would immediately respond in the bottom of the first inning as graduate designated hitter Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) hit a single to right field and brought home sophomore short stop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) before junior second baseman Tommy Easley (Acworth, Ga.) singled to left center and allowed Dixon to score and flip the switch to take a 2-1 advantage. ASU would then respond in the top of the second inning with Christian Lopez homering to left field to even the game two apiece.

AAMU would answer in the bottom of the inning as graduate left fielder Nemo Wright (PG County, Md.) doubled to right field and brought home graduate center fielder Damani Thomas (Zellwood, Fla.) to take the lead 3-2. They would then capitalize in the bottom of the third inning with Easley signaling to left field and allowed first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) to score before Dixon added another run to lead by three.

The barrage of runs by the Bulldogs would continue in the bottom of the fourth inning as Berkemeyer signaled up the middle and brought home Wright for a 6-2 advantage. The Hornets would then answer in the top of the fifth inning with Chris Lewis doubling up the middle to allow Christopher DeGuzman to score and close the gap by three.

The Bulldogs would respond quickly in the bottom of the fifth inning with junior third baseman CJ Mervilus (Brooklyn, N.Y.) signaling to right field and brought home senior catcher Dillon Roop (New Market, Ala.) to push the score to 7-3. The Hornets then answered in the top of the sixth inning with Christian Lopez adding a run to cut the deficit to three runs.

The Bulldogs would then unleash a barrage of runs in the bottom of the  inning. Firstly, Berkemeyer flied out to right field and allowed Wright to score before Roop singled to left center and brought home Dixon and Stocking to push the lead to 10-4.

Neither team would affect the score until the ASU responded in the top of the eight as Kyler McIntosh reached on a fielder's choice and brought home Trenton Jamison to close the gap to 10-5. They would then capitalize in the top of the ninth inning with Jamison signaling to left field and Kerrigan Edmondson scored before Ian Matos singled to first base and brought home Jamison. Despite the Hornets last inning effort it would not be enough as the Bulldogs sealed the 10-7 victory.

Jamison went 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored to round out the top performers. Austin King threw two innings, striking out three and allowing five earned runs to fall to 5-2.
