HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Even in the "offseason" Alabama A&M men's and women's tennis coach
Willis Mbandi can't help but share his wealth of knowledge when it comes to tennis as he spent time working with local children at the Action Kids Tennis Camp on Friday, June 24.
Founded in 2016 to help expose kids from underserved communities to the great sport of tennis, a sport they can play their entire lives, the Action Kids Tennis Camp is a cost-free joint venture between Alabama A&M Health and Human Performance and Huntsville Parks and Recreation and is administered by professor Dr. Janet Mmbaha-Zarnesky.
Mbandi spent a morning working with the kids on tennis fundamentals, offering encouragement and answering their questions at the Richard Showers Community Center. The day concluded two months of the kids getting out and enjoying playing tennis twice a week.
"I had a great time at the camp," said Mbandi. "It was fun interacting with those boys and girls who had courage to step out of their comfort zone and try a new sport. Actions Kids Camp is doing a great job introducing tennis to minority players and I look forward to working with them next summer."
