Alabama A&M's Ibrahim Becomes 10-Time All-American With HERO Sports Second-Team Honor

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Double-digit All-American honors are usually reserved for multi-event track athletes and swimmers but Alabama A&M senior wide receiver Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim (Miramar, Fla.) can now count himself among that select group as he earns his 10th such recognition with a HERO Sports Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason Second-Team honor as announced by that organization on Thursday, August 11.

Ibrahim has previously claimed, in order, All-American honors from Hero Sports (2019 FCS Freshman), BOXTOROW (Spring 2021 Preseason, Spring 2021 First-Team), American Football Coaches Association (Spring 2021 Second-Team), Hero Sports (Spring 2021 Sophomore), BOXTOROW (Fall 2021 Preseason, Fall 2021 First-Team), Stats Perform FCS (2022 Preseason Third-Team) and 2022 BOXTOROW Preseason All-America Team.

In adding this honor to his ledger, the former freshman walk-on and tryout player is considered one of the top 102 FCS players in the country, one of the top nine wideouts and the top receiver in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) as he is the league's only representative at that position.

He has earned those honors following a devastating Fall 2021 campaign (for defenses at least) that saw him rank as one of just 16 individuals at the FCS level to surpass 1,000 yards receiving  (1,008). That was good for No. 15 in the nation and led the SWAC by nearly 100 yards. He also topped the conference with a mark of 100.8 per game as the only player to average triple digits.

Ibrahim also snagged 6.7 balls per game with 67 total catches to place second and eighth, respectively, in the league. At the national level he was fifth in receiving yards per game, eighth in receptions per game and 15th in receiving yards.

A number of tremendous individual performances would rack up those overall numbers, including 177 yards on eight catches vs. Tuskegee (9/25), 133 with a career-best 10 catches the next week at Grambling (10/2) and 104 with a touchdown against Alabama State (10/30) in the Magic City Classic.

His last two games would see him come away with eight balls for 176 yards and a pair of TDs - including one from a whopping 81 yards out - at Texas Southern (11/13) and 115 yards on seven catches. With the latter he would take two of those snags the distance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11/20).

Early returns entering the 2022 season have seen Ibrahim earn an All-SWAC Preseason First-Team selection and three All-American honors. The latter includes Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American Third-Team and BOXTOROW Preseason All-American recognition in addition to this honor.
